Nell Ní ChróinínNell Ní Chróinín - Sean-Nós Singer

Nell is a sean-nós singer who comes from the Múscraí Gaeltacht (Irish speaking area) of West Cork. There is a very strong singing tradition in her area, and when Nell began singing at the age of 11, she was already steeped in this tradition.

Nell has been very successful with her singing to date. Her achievements include several under-age medals and singing titles from prestigious competitions held at festivals such as the Oireachtas na Gaeilge, and The Fleadh Ceoil.

She was also the recipient of TG4’s ‘Traditional Singer of the Year’ award in 2012, and is in fact the youngest ever recipient of the award. At present she is teaching in Gaeilscoil Uí Drisceoil in Cork, where she is encouraging more young people to immerse themselves in the Sean Nós tradition.
